Zero-Emission Floor Scrapers

Anderson Innovations is a family-owned company based in Duluth, MN. We specialize in the manufacturing of both walk-behind floor scrapers and ride-on floor scrapers. With generations of experience backing us, we’ve developed top-of-the-line floor stripping machines that run efficiently and make the lives of contractors easier. We’ve taken extra steps to ensure our machines qualify for zero-emission work zones.

Zero Emission Floor Scraping Machines

The vast majority of jobs where floor stripping machines are used are indoors. Oftentimes, buildings aren’t big enough to handle exhaust from propane machines safely. While propane-powered floor scrapers do have their place in the industry and likely always will, we’ve focused on creating equipment that will allow you to work practically anywhere.  All the floor scrapers we currently offer are electrically powered and do not create harmful fumes.

Common Zones That May Require Zero-Emission Equipment

There are many worksites where flooring contractors won’t be allowed to use gas machines regardless of whether or not the carbon monoxide (CO) levels can be held at safe levels: schools, hospitals, and small enclosed spaces, to name a few. Even when CO remains at safe levels, there is still more risk to workers in the immediate vicinity of the machine being exposed to higher amounts of fumes. Additionally, it’s necessary to test and maintain equipment so that readings are always correct. Even when used in large buildings, gas or propane equipment can still let out harmful levels of CO, creating a nightmare for the contractors, store owners, and any customers who may be in the building and exposed to dangerous levels of CO. Another point to consider is that propane-powered floor scrapers typically need to be quite large to accommodate the gas engine and propane tank.  The size of the machine itself could hamper your ability to use it on a job site. We make some of the most compact and efficient emission-free floor scrapers in the industry.

Battery Technology in Our Floor Scrapers

The ES 2000 and ES 1300 are the two battery-powered flooring machines we currently offer. They are low maintenance, compact, and highly efficient. However, even a well-designed machine will perform poorly with a bad battery. So, we work with the best battery manufacturers available and continually look for optimal charging options to lower the amount of time it takes to recharge. Additionally, we use batteries with a much longer cycle life than most other batteries on the market, so operators can go longer stretches of time between battery replacements.

One unique component in the design of our battery-powered machines that can optimize their run time is our patented Forward Slope Technology (FST). FST allows our machines to take up flooring more efficiently than other machines in their weight class, meaning the user can get more done before needing to recharge the battery pack.

Advanced AGM Battery Power

In addition to the design of our machine, we do our best to use top-tier batteries that will last longer than other battery offerings in the market and can hold up to the demands required for flooring removal. The battery used in our ES 2000 Ride-On Floor Scraper meets these requirements in spades. It allows higher output, longer cycle life, and the ability to handle both partial charging and challenging environments. The battery can last up to 1,200 cycles, compared to 400 cycles for most batteries. That is 1,200 cycles at 100% depth of discharge (DOD), meaning that the battery was charged and then fully discharged before being charged again. Here are some other highlights of the ES 2000 battery:

  • Up to 3x the cycle life of standard AGM batteries
  • Able to perform in extreme temperatures from -40F-160F
  • Can withstand partial charging
  • Able to withstand vibration and shock

Lithium Batteries

Lithium-ion batteries are a type of rechargeable battery that operates on the principle of moving lithium ions between the anode and cathode in a lithium compound during charging and discharging cycles. This technology is favored for its high energy density, lightweight, and ability to handle numerous charge and discharge cycles without significant degradation in capacity. Lithium batteries have benefits such as:

  • A longer lifespan when compared to standard lead acid batteries
  • They do not suffer from partial discharge-recharge cycles like many lead acid batteries
  • Much faster charging cycle than lead acid
  • A higher energy density, which allows the battery to be much smaller than a comparative lead acid battery
  • Much lighter than comparative lead acid batteries, which is very important in the Speed Load system that we use in the ES 1300

We use Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries in our ES 1300 Ride-on floor scraper. These batteries are different from the Nickel Cobalt Aluminum (NCA) batteries commonly used in many electric vehicles. We chose this composition because LiFePO4 batteries have excellent thermal and Chemical stability, which makes them much safer and more resistant to thermal runaway than NCA batteries.

The battery pack used in the ES 1300 allows for up to 3 hours of run time, and our Speed Load battery system makes changing out battery packs a simple and rapid process. The battery pack only takes 6 hours to charge, so you can charge a dead battery pack while running on the fresh one. So if an operator starts the day with 2 fully charged battery packs, they can expect to get about 8 hours of runtime.
